In June 2015 myself and 37 other riders completed a monster challenge cycling from Cardiff to Paris in order to raise money for Tenovus Cancer Care.
All 38 riders endured six months of training and saddled up for the four day, 350mile bike ride with the aim of raising more than £50,000 for Wales’ leading cancer charity.
Their itinerary was: Cardiff to Frome (146km); Frome to Portsmouth (106km); Caen to Evreux (123km) and Evreux to Paris (111km).
The Tenovus Cancer Care team were creative in their fundraising efforts, holding a 12 hour cycle-a-thon in Cardiff Bay and encouraging corporate sponsorship of their riding tops for the challenge. The team held a golf day in July and a black and white summer ball in August at the Vale Resort to help them raise even more money.
The event was led by Clive Hamilton of Pinnacle Office Equipment who organises charity events every year. He said: “We’ve had a great six months training together and it was a fantastic experience! It was a fun but extremely tough few days
From my point of view, it was brilliant tackling this challenge and was amazing to do it with such a great crowd. We hoped to raise the awareness of Tenovus Cancer Care as well as raising vital funds for the work they do. We made our way through Wales, England and France with this on our minds.
Below are an example of the route that we travelled in the uk.
